Artist Statement
We have been stained glass artists for 40 years. In that time, we have tried to develop a unique style that differs from most people’s concept of stained glass. We take a more graphic approach to stained glass design, in which the structural and compositional lines are incorporated into the focal point and movement of the design. The necessary structural lines become part of the design, rather than standing out visually as unnecessary “break lines”.
Working in both lead and copper foiled techniques, we prefer lead for mirrors that we make, and copper foil for most of the free hanging windows. Installations can be either technique. We use a variety of glasses, everything from imported mouth blown antiques to machine rolled domestic varieties. We especially like to use clear textures and architectural glasses and incorporate them into the design, resulting in a more contemporary look.
We have exhibited our work at fine art shows throughout the country and have custom designed and fabricated work for a diverse clientele in that time. Although we display contemporary work at fine art shows, our designs are not limited to that style. We have also designed numerous traditional, prairie school, abstract, and other stylized work as well as corporate and liturgical installations. Our windows are compositions of color, texture and light.
